Korean Council of African Studies Institutes Holds Meeting

On Friday, October 11th, research institutes focusing on Africa gathered to discuss ways to strengthen the network of African Studies institutes in Korea. The Korean Council of African Studies Institutes, which was established during the 2024 Korea-Africa International Academic Forum in May, comprises African Studies institutes from various universities as well as public and private research organizations specializing in African studies.

During the meeting, participating institutes shared their main activities and needs while exchanging diverse perspectives on expanding the foundation of African studies in Korea and raising awareness. The discussion was particularly productive in developing concrete plans for future collaboration, including the promotion of African studies and nurturing emerging researchers.

The council also made practical decisions such as establishing regular consultative meetings and appointing chair and vice-chair institutes to lead these initiatives forward.
