2026 Honorary Doctorate Conferment and Special Address by John Dramani Mahama president of the Republic of Ghana at Yonsei University (Seoul)

 John Dramani Mahama received an honorary doctorate from Yonsei University on Thursday, March 12, and delivered an acceptance speech focusing on the strong partnership and future vision between Korea and Ghana.

The special address at the conferment ceremony retraced the shared historical milestones of Korea and Ghana, as both nations began establishing their modern national identities in 1957. The speech emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation rooted in the shared values of 'Excellence' and 'Truth.'

Notably, the address underscored the need to build a "genuine partnership of equals," moving beyond the traditional benefactor-beneficiary dynamic. It presented a forward-looking blueprint, suggesting that Africa’s dynamism?driven by its emerging role as the core of the global youth population?combined with Korea's extensive experience in economic development, can pave the way for co-prosperity in a multi-polar world order.

The President of the Korea-Africa Foundation also attended the ceremony, adding significance to the ongoing exchange and cooperation between the two nations.
