Africa Experts Roundtable Held
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources and The Korea-Africa Foundation jointly held the 「Africa Experts Roundtable」 on June 19.
Chaired by the Director-General for Trade Cooperation of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, the roundtable was convened to discuss potential avenues for industrial, trade, and ODA cooperation with Egypt. Approximately 15 participants attended, including representatives from the Institute of Euro-MENA Studies at Sogang University, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), the Korea Fire Institute, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), the Korea Automobile Research Institute (KATECH), and the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM).
Participants highlighted Egypt’s strategic position as a gateway connecting Africa, the Middle East, and Europe through the Suez Canal, as well as its ongoing efforts to promote manufacturing, energy transition, and the development of special economic zones. They also discussed opportunities for Korea-Egypt cooperation in key sectors, including shipbuilding, automotive industries, investment in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), and mineral resources development.
The Korea-Africa Foundation will continue to work closely with government agencies, research institutions, and businesses to identify new opportunities for economic cooperation with African countries and to support Korean companies seeking to expand into African markets.
