Korea-Africa Foundation Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with Seoul National University’s Asia-Africa Centre at the Institute of Asian Studies
□ The Korea-Africa Foundation (Chairman Kim Young-chae) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation with the Asia-Africa Centre at Seoul National University’s Institute of Asian Studies on Friday, 20 March 2026.
□ The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Young-chae, Chairman of the Korea-Africa Foundation, Chae Su-hong, Director of the Seoul National University Asia Institute and Kim Tae-kyun, Director of the Asia-Africa Centre at the Seoul National University Asia Institute.
□ Through this MoU, the two institutions agreed to: △ mutually exchange knowledge and information relating to Africa △ jointly host academic conferences on Africa and foster relevant experts and early-career scholars △ develop collaborative projects to strengthen Korea?Africa policy research and networking and △ develop education programmes relating to Africa.
ㅇ Since 2026, the Korea-Africa Foundation has been implementing a thesis support programme for early-career researchers, providing funding for master’s and doctoral students to conduct field research and data collection in Africa.
□ Chairman Kim Young-chae highlighted the need to promote and broaden the scope of research on the African region in Korea, and emphasised his hope that, following the signing of this MoU, the two institutions would work together to enhance Korea-Africa cooperation across various fields.
□ Furthermore, the Foundation plans to revitalise academic exchanges with relevant organisations through various channels, such as academic seminars, forums and youth participation programmes, whilst expanding its support in multiple ways to foster experts on the African region.
