The 2020 Korea-Africa Business Forum

The 2020 Korea-Africa Business Forum, co-hosted by the Korea-Africa Foundation and the African Union (AU) was held from Thursday, November 19 to Friday, November to Friday, November 20, 2020. The forum began with a speech by the President of the Korea-Africa Foundation, Choi Yeon-ho, a congratulatory speech by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lee Tae-ho, and a keynote speech by the Commissioner for Trade and Industry of the African Union Commission, H.E. Albert M. Muchanga.

In the first session under the theme “Promoting Korea-Africa Cooperation in ‘untact/ontact’ Industry”, Alastair Tempest, the CEO for Ecommerce Forum Africa and Jun Seunghwa, a data analyst presented on the non-face-to-face industry that is drawing attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the panel discussion, Cho Sukhee, Vice President of Hojung Solution, Jin Yuha, CEO of Tella, and Sadamoudou Kaba, Senior Manager of Orange Fab, shared their experiences and opinions on companies entering in the field of untact/ontact.

In the second session under the theme “Korea-Africa Partnership in Healthcare and Medical Industry”, there were presentations by Dr. Ahmed Ogwell Ouma, Deputy Director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Lee Jae Hyun, Professor at the Department of Industrial Pharmaceutical Science of Sungkyunkwan University, and Lee Seung-yeol, head of overseas business at Shinpoong Pharm.co.ltd. During the panel discussion, Martin Davis, Director of Deloitte and Yoo Dae-hyun, Director at Bio TNS, shared the trends, challenges and experiences in the health and medical industry.

The third session featured a showcase for the 2020 Intra-Africa Virtual Trade Fair (IAVTF) and the introduction of Isaac Arthur, Senior Manager at African Export-Import Bank, and demonstration by Moon So-hyun of the Korea-Africa Foundation.

Finally, Hussein Hassan, Director of the Department of Trade and Industry at the African Union Commission (AUC), and Seo Sang-Hyun, Senior Researcher at POSCO Research Institute, ended the forum with the hope that it served as a meaningful foundation for practical business cooperation between Korea and Africa.
