The [Africa Startup Academy] workshop and presentation evaluation for the 2024 Korea-Africa Startup Incubation & Contest took place on October 7-8. The workshop began with an English IR pitching training session, where participants learned about pitch deck creation and pitching strategies. This was followed by hands-on practice, making for an energetic and informative experience. In the group activities, three programs ran simultaneously: office hours, mock pitching, and IR consulting. During office hours, each team received one-on-one in-depth consulting to review their global expansion and business models, ensuring they were well-prepared for the evaluation on the second day of the workshop. A mock pitching session was held to help teams refine their IR pitches, essential for entering overseas markets. This time allowed participants to assess feedback from advisors and develop their strategies. Additionally, ongoing IR consulting helped teams enhance their pitch decks with continuous expert advice. The first day concluded with a lecture from Caitlin Nash, a local AC from South Africa, and a late-night networking event with Oh Hwan-jong, CEO of tAB and the 2019 contest winner. This strengthened the bonds among the academy teams.
On the following day, October 8, the workshop culminated in a graduation ceremony and a presentation evaluation to select the final teams. The 10 final teams will receive more in-depth consulting and will participate in local market research in South Africa and Uganda, scheduled for November.
